Finishes
Throughout the years, Fodera instruments, whether guitars or basses, have featured a few different finish options. As a primarily custom shop, we are always open to ideas for new builds while still remaining loyal to our 'Fodera Satin' finish.
Satin
-
The most common Fodera finish throughout the years has been satin. It is an Acrylic Conversion coating with excellent non-yellowing properties and UV blockers. It is a gloss paint that we hand rub to satin unlike most other satin finishes which are a more gritty, satin paint. It is both durable and flexible allowing our instruments to move and breath with a very little to no paint damage. This 'signature' finish allows for a more natural sounding instrument as opposed to a polyester based paint.
-
Our satin finishes have a subtle ‘brushed’ effect which is a result of our process (starting with a gloss finish and hand rubbing it back with fine-grit pads to achieve the satin look).
Gloss
-
Has the same composition as our satin finish--an acrylic conversion coating--but hand buffed to a mirror surface which enhances the depth of color in natural wood.
Oil
-
Is the thinnest and most natural feeling finish that we offer which also ages beautifully. This option tends to be selected for a more vintage look and feel.
Both our Satin and Gloss finishes are offered most commonly in Clear but also in a variety of color. (*colors may vary slightly)
