Inspired by the beautiful and ornate shapes and textures of grapevines and vineyards, Masterbuilt – Grapevine features some of our most intricate inlay work in a Masterbuilt instrument to date. Utilizing a combination of Mother of Pearl, Abalone, Pau Ferro, and submerged Sugar Maple, our team created an incredibly detailed grapevine design that extends nearly the entire length of the instrument. In addition, extra care and attention was paid to more unseen details such as extending the inlay into flat and hidden surfaces. For example, the sides of the pickup shell, the flat end of the Ebony fingerboard, and the truss-rod cover all feature inlay work. Carefully selected pieces of iridescent pearls and shell are used to replicate the grapes and leaves of the vine, beautifully wrapping around the hand-carved Pomelle Sappelle top of our coveted AJ Hybrid. In keeping with our AJ Hybrid design hand-selected pieces of Alder were used for the body and are capped on the top and back with quilted Pomelle Sappelle that is matched with a 3-pc Red Oak neck and an Ebony Fingerboard. The combination of the Hybrid body structure with its 36″-scale / 28-frets provides this bass with a truly unique tone with rich character and a very piano-like quality to the attack of the notes.
