The concept behind the Masterbuilt – “Stained Glass” was to simulate the look of a gorgeous stained-glass window.  The idea for the design came to Vinny Fodera while attending an exhibit of artist Louis Comfort Tiffany.  Tiffany was an American artist from the late 1800’s/early 1900’s who is best known for his work in stained-glass, and was the first Design Director of his family company, Tiffany & Co. The inlay begins at the truss-rod cover and continues down to the end of the body in order to create the look of a stained-glass window panel. Inlayed in these panels are various floral designs, in particular, Poppy flowers – a favorite of Vinny’s – which extend outside of the Mother-of-Pearl background giving a three-dimensional effect to the fingerboard. In order to create the look and texture of a Poppy flower, carefully selected pieces of Green Abalone were used as well as Turquoise stone to mimic the texture of a clay pot in which the flower extends out of.  Combining all of the inlayed elements with our Dovetail neck construction creates a perfect harmony of aesthetics and functional design.

In addition to the one-of-a-kind inlay work, this Monarch Deluxe also features a 3-piece body made from Walnut and highly-figured Quilted Maple, an Ebony top, Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard, a 9-piece Maple neck with Purpleheart and Ebony stringers, and Fodera/Duncan dual coil pickups with Ebony covers.
